Construction Begins on New USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute

Visionaries of Tampa’s future downtown
USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute came
together to celebrate the construction of the new building. This is really a
highlight a real marker in our history as a university. Tampa’s downtown
district is set to become an innovative and vibrant community with the new
medical building as its first site. We are becoming that city that we imagined
that we could be. It’s an exciting day for us but more importantly it’s the
beginning of our next chapter. Jeff Vinik a leading partner reminisced on the
early days of this project. The idea of USF the Maorsani College of Medicine
coming downtown was conceived long before anything else. It was the first. It
was the catalyst for a lot that’s going on in this district. The medical building
is expected to be completed in 2019. It’s really convenient because most of third
and fourth-year will be at TGH which is already down here so we can just scoot
over really quickly to our med school, use it a study space meeting space so
I’m very excited about that. You know. it’s been USF Health and the Morsani College of Medicine that has established the Tampa Bay area as one of
the leaders in health innovation across America. Admissions into the Medical
College are increasingly competitive since the announcement of the new
location the most recent average Medical College Admission Test scores are among
the top of all medical schools in the country.
We really are poised to fill that building with great students and with
great researchers you can tell them a little excited about this opportunity
and I am incredibly grateful to this community and to Tampa General and to my
wonderful University. The new location will bring the medical college and the
new heart institute closer to its primary teaching site Tampa General
Hospital and will be steps away from the Center for Advanced Medical and Learning
Simulation facility. It will become an idea sharing community. Florida senator
Dana Young is a strong supporter of the project. People living together, people
eating together, working together, talking about the next the future of
healthcare in Tampa and in our country.
