First Aid Kits and Tips : Treating Abrasions: First Aid for Minor Injuries

Hi! I’m Tracey Cullers on behalf of
In this segment, I’ll show you how to dress an abrasion at the scene of where it happens.
All you need is to first, put on your gloves to keep away from any body fluids. Just go
ahead and straighten your knee out a little bit. Usually have a water bottle around, so
cleanse it with a little bit of water. Dry it with sterile gauze dressing. Put a little
bit of triple antibiotic ointment on it to keep the germs away. I recommend a non-adherent
pad. That will be easier to take off when it’s time. Just going to put this right
over the top of her jeans. This is called a picture frame dressing. That is how you
take care of an abrasion at the scene.

  1. How about scene safety? Wouldn't be nice to perform first-aid only to get hit by a car.

If you can't get to the wound, just cut the pants away with your sheers. Irrigate with water, disinfect, place a gauze pad on the wound (with vaseline-dressing if it's a abrasion) and secure with a elastic bandage. A window-dressing stays on for about 2 seconds with a kid.

  2. Oh, this is not acting, they really go around and when they see people in need of help they set up shop and film 😀

  3. expertvillage!!! I have an abrasion on my left leg directly below my knee ..which is my shin.I got it about 3 days ago and its not healing secretes yellow greenish fluid out when I apply pressure on it and forms a yellow coloured layer on top of the wound….help !!!!!!

  4. I got an abrasion today and I dressed it better than she did. Then again I'm a medically trained professional. I'm an EMT.
