Hi, my name is Kanza Abbas and I’m one of the Hematologists/Oncologists here at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Once I started medical school, I kept rotating between two different subjects and kind of looking for what I liked, and as soon as I came to Oncology I knew that sparked a special interest in me, the way the patients and I could interact, the way we connected and the way I saw that how much of a different one could make just by being there and being in that position. That really made me want to be an oncologist. I think a lot of what Kelsey offers goes along with my personal philosophy of care as well. I think one of the best things about Kelsey is that you’re able to get a lot of the care you need at the same place, and when you’re facing a diagnosis I think Kelsey helps in bringing everything together in the most efficient and the best way possible. A Hematologist/Oncologist’s job is to bring together the knowledge that we’ve gained over the years and to try and use it to the best of our abilities to help our patients make an informed decision, to help our patients achieve whatever goals they have. You’re there for them at a very difficult place in their life so you have to be there with them helping them along with this and helping fight with them, so I think my role in their life is very crucial and the relationship that we build is something that can last a lifetime.
