How to Do a Medicine Ball Push-Up | Chest Workout

It’s Max Tapper again for Howcast. Now, today
we’re going to go through a medicine ball push up. Obviously that means we’re going
to be doing push ups on a medicine ball. Many different sizes, does not matter what weight
it is either. It just matters that it’s able to withstand your body weight and be hard.
All right? Now, there are many different things you can
do with a medicine ball push up. You can do a close grip push up. You can do a rolling
push up where you push up and switch it between hands. I’ll show you both of them. Okay? So
follow me. First, I’m going to show you the closed grip
medicine ball push up. Now, we just put both hands on the medicine ball, which is going
to be a closed grip position and we’re going down. Until we touch our chest, back up. Until
we touch our chest, back up. Now, that’s that one. I’m going to show you now the alternate
medicine ball push up, where you roll it. Starts off with one hand, you do a press,
roll it, catch it, press other side. Roll it, catch it, press other side. There’s so many different variations of a
medicine ball push up that, honestly, you just need to have fun with it. As long as
there’s a medicine ball and you can do push ups on it you can create any type of exercise
you want. Now, obviously a medicine ball push up’s going to be a little harder than a normal
push up because your hands will be closer and you’ll be focusing on one point. You’re
not going to have the wide stability you had in other push ups, so it’s going to be a lot
more difficult. Very challenging. The rolling one is going to put more strain
on one side of your body at a time. So what it’s going to do is challenge one side of
your body while the other one is doing a little less. Completely fine. Remember, this is fun,
it may be challenging, do it safely and have a good time. Now, the really cool thing about a medicine
ball push up is you can see as I press on this ball and I extend, what it does to my
chest. So obviously there’s a bigger requirement in your chest to pull your arms forward. So
it’s a very nice exercise for helping define your chest and your stomach. Medicine ball
push up. Enjoy it.
