Iwi takes action against Kauri dieback disease

Northland iwi Te Uri o Hau
has imposed a ban on people venturing onto two
of their ancestral mountains to stop the spread of Kauri
eating disease PTA. The disease has already seen many
ancient kauri fall in Northland, Auckland and Hauraki. The disease has been discovered
in the forested Pukekaroro area, the ancestral homestead
of Te Uri o Hau. The elders of the iwi
imposed the ban this morning on Pukekaroro and Pukeareinga. The aim is to stop
unauthorised people from entering.
