Officials to Investigate Pharmaceuticals Getting into RI Water Supply

(PL-3) NEW AT NOON, A LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION IS NOW BEING FORMED AT THE RHODE ISLAND GENERAL ASSEMBLY — TO TACKLE PHARMACEUTICALS GETTING INTO THE STATE’S WATER SUPPLY. THE COMMISSION WILL INCLUDE LAWMAKERS AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCIES — TO SEE HOW TO KEEP PHARMACEUTICALS OUT OF THE WATER. THEY PLAN TO RELEASE FINDINGS NEXT MARCH. THE STATE POINTS TO A STUDY FROM 2002 SAYING 80-PERCENT OF STREAMS SAMPLED IN 30 STATES HAD AMOUNTS OF PRESCRIPTION AND NON- PRESCRIPTION DRUGS IN THEM. (PL)
