Physician Profile: Dr. Robert Beasley

The field of interventional radiology is a
great example of state-of-the-art medicine. And an experienced doctor in this advanced field is Mount Sinai’s Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Dr. Robert Beasley. With more than 20 years experience, Dr. Beasley has performed literally thousands of vascular procedures. These less invasive treatments offer patients
an alternative to riskier open surgeries. We’re able to do this minimally invasively
by going through the blood vessels in the groin. By going in and through the – the body,
into a particular blood vessel and taking care of this problem without having to open
someone up. What that does, is it allows this person to
get out of the hospital sooner. Instead of having to be in the hospital for
two weeks, you might be able to go home in one or two days. And the complications that occur from this
are – are just much, much less. Dr. Beasley is a leader in the field of carotid
artery stenting, the stenting of a large artery in the neck. He participated in a clinical trial that paved
the way for Medicare to approve that treatment as a reimbursable procedure. As the Director of Mount Sinai’s Vascular
Interventional Radiology Lab and Vein Center, Dr. Beasley leads his team in performing a
vast array of additional procedures including endovascular repairs of aneurysms, or enlarged
aortic arteries; angioplasty, which is the surgical unblocking of the coronary artery;
vascular stenting to treat PAD, or peripheral arterial disease; laser vein treatment, including
the repair of arteries that carry blood to the kidneys; and the treatment of diabetic
ulcers. A graduate of Bowman Gray School of Medicine
at Wake Forest University, Dr. Beasley completed his residency in diagnostic radiology, and
a fellowship in vascular interventional procedures, and neuroradiology. He’s since been involved in teaching the next
generation of interventional radiologists through his live case seminars. With such an outstanding reputation, many
people come to Dr. Beasley for a second opinion, and in many cases, he’s been able to save
limbs for individuals who thought they had suffered irreparable damage. Dr. Robert Beasley, another outstanding physician
who calls Mount Sinai Medical Center home. For more information on this, or any of Mount
