Physician-scientist Dr. Kami Kim on why she chose to pursue research

To get into medical school, it was
good to do research, but it turned out I actually liked research and then I went
to medical school and I decided alright, I’m going to give this research thing a
chance again and you know, that was the beginning of the AIDS era so it was
pretty clear that there was a lot to do and infectious disease was really really
fascinating and there were…and this was also the era that people were aware that
maybe malaria hadn’t been eradicated, TB started exploding, so a lot of the really
interesting problems that affected people were infectious diseases and so
that’s how I ended up saying, alright I’m going to give research another try once
I finish my clinical training.
