BECAUSE OF THE OPIOID CRISIS, YOU MAY BE SEEING MORE AND MORE OF THESE DRUG DROP-OFF AS ROUND TOWN WHERE THEY COLLECT PRESCRIPTION DRUGS THAT YOU ARE NOT USING TO BE DISPOSED OFF PROPERLY. WE HAVE ONE RIGHT OUTSIDE. MAUREEN THERE IS AS WE PUT YOU FIRST THIS MONDAY EVENING. MAUREEN. THAT’S RIGHT. HELLO EVERYBODY. THIS IS THE TEMPORARY TRAILER, ACTUALLY IT’S USED ALL THE TIME BY MONROE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TO TRAVEL AROUND THE AREA, DO SOME EDUCATION, BUT ALSO THIS IS SERVING AS A DROP-OFF POINT FOR UNWANTED MEDICATIONS. HERE AT NEWS 8 WE’VE HAD THIS GOING ON FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THIS IS ABOUT 2:30 THIS AFTERNOON AND A PERSONAL THANK YOU TO THE CLOSE TO 100 PEOPLE WHO HAVE SO FAR DROPPED OFF UN WANTED MEDICATIONS RIGHT HERE. REST ASSURED THE MONROE COUNTY WILL BE DISPOSING OF THAT UNWANT ED MEDICATION PROPERLY. THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE BAGS WE HAVE COLLECTED. AGAIN 90 PEOPLE WELL OVER 300 POUNDS OF UNWANTED MEDICATION DROPPED OFF HERE AT CHANNEL 8 TODAY. VERY QUICKLY WE ARE PLEASED TO BE JOINED BY CHERYL DINOLFO. THE COUNTY IS TAKING THE LEAD IN THIS MOVE TO REALLY GET RID OF UNWANTED MEDICATION. THERE ARE LOTS OF DROP-ON POINTS IF PEOPLE COULDN’T TAKE IT TO CHANNEL 8 TODAY. THE NEXT DROP-OFF IS WEGMAN’S ON TITUS AVENUE THIS SATURDAY. YOU CAN COME TO OUR ECOPARK EVERY WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY. ALL OF THE SHERIFF SUBSTATIONS AS WELL. WE DO DROP-OFFS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY ON A REGULAR BASIS. WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO CERTAINLY LOOK THROUGH THEIR MEDICINE CABINETS, BRING IN THEIR UNWANT ED MEDICATIONS WHETHER THEY’RE PRESCRIPTION OR OVER THE COUNTER. WE WILL CERTAINLY TAKE IT. VERY EASY, VERY CONVENIENT SINCE 2011 MONROE COUNTY HAS COLLECTED OVER 140,000 POUNDS OF UNWANTED MEDICATION. THAT’S A LOT OF MEDICATION THAT CAN END UP IN THE WRONG HANDS OR CERTAINLY CONTAMINATING OUR WATER SYSTEM AND OUR LANDFILLS AS WELL.
