  1. Addiction is not a disease. It is “like” a disease in some ways, but in reality a choice. More addiction will be cured if we treat those having addiction issues with this fact.

  2. Most people who are addicts had a prior undiagnosed mental disease. Depression, anxiety, etc are all mental diseases and most addicts had a trauma or something that led them to the abuse of using something to feel normal or cope normal when really they needed help first. People drink and not everyone becomes an alcoholic people take pills for a broken arm and can or can't let go of the euphoria effect etc. So saying it's a choice ya it is so is everything in life and everyone made a bad one before. It is a self given disease from a problem already there that could have been fixed properly but wasn't. All walks of life are affected by it and nobody would ever wanna be an addict, you know the consequences but do it anyways.

  4. Here is a great video to watch with your kids, followed by candid conversation. Problems with alcoholism tend to run in families. Its important for families to come together to discuss delicate topics surrounding alcohol use, alcoholism in the family or why delaying use until after 21 yrs is better for the brain.

  5. Who every made this video is an idiot. I can't stand people who use recycled information as their own, firstly just because you hear one thing from a professional with a license doesn't mean he or she is correct this is why educating your self is important in as many fields as you can this is why second opinions exist. Secondly addiction is not a disease. Anyone with any type of educational background can tell that the characteristics which define a disease simply don't meet the requirements of a Addiction period, they have to tell you this to scare you into stopping which does work, but an addiction is more a less a person's own created/developed personal habit nothing more nothing less, I've studied patients for years who dealt with Addiction and to call what they do a disease is wrongful placement. A disease is chronic and long lasting but treatable in most cases but an addiction is completely curable once the underlining case is corrected. To those in the comments section saying "pills, or drugs killed my friend, husband, wife, girlfriend or family member" congratulations you have Shown the same misguided mindset of a Addict, see a addict will do anything to steer away from faults of their own, maybe instead of blaming the drug of choice blame the person at fault who abused the drug. I hate when professionals label this as a disease how Insulting of you this is supposed to be your area of practice yet you blame something on something else to Make your job a little more easier… Sicken

  6. #Addiction  is a complex condition and like other diseases, it can be prevented, treated and managed by medical and other health professionals. Watch to learn more:

  7. Type II Diabetes is a disease. Obesity and lack of physical activity are two of the most common causes of this form of diabetes and they responsible for nearly 95% of diabetes cases in the United States. Being overweight and eating too much sugar are CHOICES made by the individual. Lung cancer is a disease . The incidence of lung cancer is strongly correlated with cigarette smoking, with about 90% of lung cancers arising as a result of tobacco use. HIV/AIDS also is a disease developed through ones CHOICES along with other STDS. Cirrhosis is a chronic and very common disease most commonly caused by alcohol abuse (a personal CHOICE). Also, Americans are not the only ones that think it is a disease. Take Portugal who recently decriminalized their drugs (not legalized) and TREAT addicts and drug users rather than INCARCERATE them (US has the highest incarceration rate in the world and most incarcerations are due to drug related crimes). Their violence, and suicide rates have gone do incredibly. Many find it difficult to call it a disease because for decades a physical defect could not be pinpointed it was the addicts immaturity and irresponsibility that fueled him/her. But, in the past ten years scientists have PROVEN that the physical defect is in the hedonic system, the part that handles basic survival causing the addict to unconsciously think of the drug as life itself.  MOST DISEASES CAN BE AVOIDED. An addict has the same right to quality compassionate and effective care as a diabetic or cancer patient. All it takes is courage and education to burst out of the ignorant bubble that addiction is not a crime but a disease.

  8. Wow so many ignorant people on here, when you finally educate yourselves and realize you are wrong and it is a disease is when we will see an end to this  epidemic that is wiping out an entire generation,  but sadly till than we will keep losing our children. What will it take to get your attention????Maybe when it is your child and you see, experience and live the hell first hand the damage this disease causes than will you believe??? We need to end the stigma and the shame and wake up!!!  Thankyou to all those advocating change who are saying enough is enough and bringing awareness to this very misunderstood and deadly DISEASE..

  9. Is addiction a disease or is it a choice? To think clearly about this question, we need to make a sharp distinction between them so what is a disease? A disease is a pathological condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms.

A condition or tendency, as of society, regarded as abnormal and harmful. Obsolete Lack of ease a disordered or abnormal condition of an organ or other part of an organism resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, nutritional deficiency, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness sickness.

In other world a disease it's something undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally without a deliberate plan or cause. So, yeah a addiction it's not a disease but a choice and why?

Because you have the choice to continue with your life of addiction, you the one who can decide if you want to continue with your life with alcohol, nicotine, cocaine or heroin. A disease have nothing to do with your addiction but is your fault and no one else fault.

You with your hands you can decide your life no one else can decide your life but youself can decide your fate. Anyone who abuses substances whether it be alcohol, crack, heroin, or any type of opiate, has a choice, not a disease. Problem like cancer and diabetes are legitimate diseases as they are both beyond the individual's control at the onset.

Alcohol and drug use are not a disease, they are simple choices. So, if 12-step programs, such as NA (Narcotics Anonymous) and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) tell people that they have to go to support meetings, that they need to relapse, and that they are diseased that is not true at all.

There are approximately ten million substance users admitted to treatment programs in the United States each year, learning that they have a disease and that they are in denial as these people accept the misinformation from treatment programs, it provides them with an opportunity to avoid their reality and an excuse to avoid making the hard decision to abstain or moderate their usage or continue using substances to excess.

In essence, treatment programs replace the substance user's natural powers of common sense and free will with an external imaginary power of a simple, inert substance. So, why many people such as the 12-step programs define addiction as a disease?

To put it simple is MONEY simple as that. They invent the excuse that addiction is a disease just to get your money. They know that they will make money for their services, they know that people are stupid and naïve, and they will fall into their traps and also use as a excuse to get away with it like when someone cheat on someone else.

So, addiction of many type is not a disease but a choice so anyone who still believe that addiction is a disease is a moron, and addiction it's only for the weak minded people can be addicted to in-animated objects.
