The Forbidden Medicine

it’s now breaking the law my name is George Hutchings I’m 45 years old and I live on the Isle of Wight I’m married to my wife Rachel I’ve got three lovely children and I’ve got a condition called charcot-marie-tooth type 2 life on the island to me is lovely he’s so laid back when we go over to the mainland we can’t wait to get back over because of the rat race over on the mainland it’s just the cars the volume of people the just everything everyday life for me my condition is try to do as best as I can kill a bit Hugh would come on I wake up in the morning come downstairs make a cup of tea say morning to the kids before they go to school I go out to my shed have a little marijuana cigarette and then after that the day is as it comes I it really gets me down sometimes it really gets me down and depressed because it’s all been just sort of taken away from me it’s only been in the last five years that has really hit me hard where I’ve been born with it so it’s been in my body all my life it’s just suddenly come out now it gets progressively worse and it’s a muscle wasting disease it’s affected my legs first and I’ve got a blatant foot drop in both of my feet and as you can see my feet are purple from the poor circulation it’s absolutely cold I’ve also got intense muscle wasting on my calves and my upper thighs and they say if it wastes above the knee which it is I’m gonna be in a wheelchair those 27 seconds to get out there and you’re bursting for a pay so terrible hair I’ve gotta wear that leg splint on both of my legs that’s a foot plate to stop my feet from dropping I do this every single day and I’ll keep them all until I go to bed that’s how I hate being like this I absolutely hate it but you get on get on with it and that’s why I call me smile I cuz I always got a smile on my face but this is a week’s worth of prescription tablets that my doctors and GP I’ve prescribed me which is like the legal route of my pain tramadol which is a very strong opiate Quin in bisulfate which is to help my cramps precal a baton which is these ones which is help of nerve damage soccer Lin’s which is the sleeping tablet so each dial woke up after taking a cocktail of prescription drugs I would be just a zombie really just unable to cope and the stress and harm it does to my liver and kidneys and other internal organs so I decided to stop all my prescription tablets and go to smoking cannabis my damn knees your haze this is what I smoked during the day this is what gets me going like yesterday I saw I’ve overdone it a bit and ended up cleaning the cleaning the house Hoover in a dusting washing the wife says to me slow down slow down and I says no I’d do as much as I can while I can because once I’m in a wheelchair I won’t be able to do nothing you know people say the marijuana makes you lazy it doesn’t it just depends on the strains and it just depends on the person that’s smoking it it’s brilliant I find it absolutely brilliant a wonder drug it helps with my cramps and my muscles it helps with my cramps in my hamstrings it helps with my spasticity in the legs I helped me with my diet helps me sleep at night it helped me with my depression because I’ll get quite down sometimes it helps me go to the toilet I find out the best laxative in the world I find it helps me with my sex drive I don’t have to take different tablets to get an erection I find it more beneficial than any of the tablets that I am prescribed that my doctor’s want me to take that is legal under the miss misuse of Drugs Act of 1971 they class cannabis cannabinoids cannabis resin cannabis oil the cannabis in the raw form as there’s no medicinal value at all in it if you get caught with it cooperation with the supplier you’re looking at up to 14 years but going beyond cannabis because a few reasons really one is because I don’t like the stuff you buy off the street you don’t know what’s in contaminated WAV you don’t know what kind of strain it is it’s also very satisfying it’s like if you grow your own vegetables you plant the seeds you grow the seed you look after that plant until it’s ready for harvest then you chop it down and there’s nothing more satisfying than eating your own grown product or smoking your own grown product you stand there you look at it and you think that’s my medication I grew that I always grow nine or less because of the sentencing guidelines and it’s never enough it’s never enough it always runs out so I end up having to go out and get it on the streets which then I don’t know what I’m getting I don’t like to break the law it’s just a case of having to break the law to get a medicine that I know works for me EU residents are allowed to come into our country with their prescribed medical marijuana but it’s not okay for UK residents to do it I’d love to have an import-export license so I can go over to Holland and pick it up and legally bring it back I would like doc my doctors to prescribe it so I could go to my local pharmacy and pick it up when I contacted the home office they’d said to me you do not need an import-export license if it’s under three months supply you just need a letter from your prescribing doctor [Music] we’ve just flown in from UK glanced at them with my private prescription is 260 grams of red rubber nub I’ve got the candle on the bow at the moment so we’re getting really bad in a minute I’ve just picked up my medication today and when we fly back tonight I’m gonna openly declare it to patron customs in the UK the documents I’ll be taken to the airports with me my private prescription from my UK doctor a medical passport ain’t never formed that the Dutch doctors give me to so it can clear customs and all the doctors reports and diagnosis of my condition I’m hoping to get through that’s the flip of a coin as heads or tails and I heard you went out you lose to the worst they could do is probably confiscate the medication and if they arrest me that and if they arrest me well I think that’s the worst they can do better if I could come through because then I can now let other people know that they can go ahead and do this so that’s my motivation for coming over and doing this it’s just for myself because I’m sick and ill and for the other sick people across the country [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] subscribe [Music] I had to phone on the red channel and then the customs officers from Southampton Airport come through the surface of my bag took all my paperwork just kept his waiting and waiting after about two hours they’ve come out and said they’re confiscating it because it’s illegal in his country it’s a Class B drug even though it’s for medical matters and not a criminal matter I’ve just spent a whole week in Amsterdam trying to get this medication it cost me 500 euros to get the medication I’ve come back on the plane I’ve cleared all the other customs but when I come back into the UK they just take it off me signed a few papers and they said do free to go but if it happens again we will arrest you and you’ll be prosecuted I openly declared it I can’t understand I’m hoping the outcome of all this what I’ve done over the last few months regarding the trying to get my medication from Holland is that hopefully they will open their eyes to this now and realize that we need this is a medication we need this it’s barbaric the way the laws are in this country of regarding marijuana they’re lovely out here you

  4. since June at least 5 people have got through uk boarder patrol using this method. I wonder if some borders are more lenient than others?

  5. Its so insane that they still dont see what å miracle medicin cannabis really is,- and I wonder if not the big pharma-companies
play a big part in keeping it illegal. We all seen the big bag of prescribed drugs George was supposed to take, and I think that
it is because its so much money lost for the phama-companies that they buy politicians ( campains / vaccations etc ) to stop the legalization….So many illnesses / conditions benefit on cannabis as medication,- LEGALIZE MEDICAL Marijuana

  6. I'm using cannabis for 28 years now. I invented a very effective medical cannabis oil I named Polder Cannabis Olie (yes, I'm Dutch).
To be honest, and not to rub it in or so, but I'm 45 too. But I look quite younger than this man. I feel sorry for him. Smoking is not the way, edibles are. And certainly oil, because a medical cannabis oil can be administered per drop, so quite precisely. I smoke hardly anymore, I use my oil. Quite powerful stuff. And together with a balanced vegan diet, yoga, hiking and Krav Maga I guess the medical doctor can not pay off his boat loan from my butt…. Healthy.

    call it bang and they
    take baths in it!

  9. Its an UNJUST LAW george and I for one will NEVER admit differently! HUGE respect for you George XXXX STAY WELL XXXX

  10. Surely customs broke the law by taking it off of you seeing as YOU followed the law to the letter and did everything by the book!!!

  11. this is so sad that he has to hide. thats what causes me any depression anymore is all that prohibition causes people…its got to change. it will change.

  12. I admire what you have done and I know because of my Fibromyalgia how much MMJ and MMJ oil has done for me in a space of one year.  Sadly I can't go to Holland anymore as if I get caught I could not cope with the stress of prosecution so I decided to quit while I am ahead.  Hopefully the law will change and I will be able to bring it back but for now I sad to say goodbye but at least I know from my own experiment that Cannabis does have medical benefits and it about time the UK and the rest of the EU make it available on prescription.  In my case how I feel I could work again but now I got to stop I a prepared for what coming but at least I am ready to fight my horrid illness headon but it nice after 19 years to feel young again and have the strength of when I was 25 not 44.

  13. Its a travesty that the drugs co's control what is a natural wonder medicinal creation from nature.
The system sadly in the UK and Australia is so so rigged.
    Its Time

  15. Smoking does so much good for him. Even though he's inhaling SMOKE. That's bad for everyone no matter what you smoke. Imagine if you ingest it. Yes people, oil. Cannabis oil.

  16. I can see why they call you Smiler! You are inspirational George, a tower of strength. Legality for medical cannabis WILL happen, it is just a case of when. Let's all hope it's sooner rather than….. Keep on smiling George. I wish you all the Best and to Mrs H n the children.
    Mel 🙂
