The Frequency of Feeding a Newborn

– At first your baby’s going
to be eating very frequently because your initial
milk is called colostrum, it’s very small, concentrated volume, and so you’re going to
be feeding your baby what we say on demand. Any time your baby is
showing feeding cues, you’re going to let them go to the breast. You’re going to then let them feed as often as every hour or
at least every three hours from the beginning of
when you start feeding to the next time you start feeding. As your baby begins to gain enough weight, your pediatrician can discuss with you when it’s appropriate
to let them go longer than every three hours.
