The physician patient dialogue by Prof Ronal Dahl | COPD Choices

– There may be deficits
in the interactions between patients and physicians because they use different languages and understanding of the
importance of disease. There is a lot to gain and to improve in the patient-physician relationship and one of the things
is that the physician should understand that
patients not necessary know what an exacerbation is. When physicians discuss
COPD disease with a patient, they should not use the medical language like exacerbations and
spirometry or lung function, they should use the
important background messages like the patients see the disease. And this is more to
understand that the patients are limited by the
unpredictability of the severity of the symptoms, they have
good days and bad days and they don’t call it exacerbations. (relaxing piano music)
