‘This is not an elitist issue’: AOC on Republican inaction on climate change –video

This is not an elitist issue,
this is a quality of life issue. You want to tell people
that their concern and their desire for clean air
and clean water is elitist? Tell that to the kids
in the South Bronx, which are suffering from
the highest rates of childhood asthma
in the country. Tell that to the families in Flint,
whose kids have their blood ascending in lead levels. Their brains are damaged
for the rest of their lives. Call them elitist. You’re telling them, that those kids
are trying to get on a plane to Davos? People are dying!
They are dying! And the response across
the other side of the aisle is to introduce an amendment
five minutes before a hearing in a markup? This is serious! This should not be
a partisan issue. This is about our constituents
and all of our lives. Iowa, Nebraska, broad swathes
of the midwest are drowning right now, under water. Farms, towns that will never be
recovered and never come back. And we're here, and people
are more concerned about helping oil companies
than helping their own families? I don't think so!
I don't think so! This is about our lives.
This is about American lives. And it should not be partisan.
Science should not be partisan. We are facing a national crisis
and if we do not ascend to that crisis, if we do not ascend to the levels
in which we were threatened at the Great Depression,
when we were threatened in World War Two,
if we do not ascend to those levels, if we tell the American public
that we are more willing invest and bail out big banks
than we are willing to invest in our farmers and our urban families,
then I don't know what we are out here doing. I don't know what
we are here doing. The government knew
that climate change was real starting as far back as 1989,
when Nasa was reporting this and the private sector knew
way back in the 1970s. So, we had until around the time
I was born to address this issue. I wish it didn't have
to cost so much. But I’m going to turn
30 this year and for the entire
30 years of my lifetime, we did not make
substantial investments to prepare our entire country
for what we knew was coming. So now it's coming all up at the end. It's like when we live our whole lives
and we don't eat healthily and we don't move and we pursue
unhealthy activities and then at the end of our lives our healthcare
costs are very high. We have the choice to lower
the cost now because I can tell you the cost
of pursuing a Green New Deal will be far less than the cost
of not passing it.

  1. Green New Deal: Senate defeats proposal as Democrats unite in protest ► https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/mar/26/green-new-deal-senate-democrats-protest-republicans

  2. Quality of life? What life, get rid of cars, trucks, farm equipment, planes…there will be very little life left on the human side.

  3. We in N. Y. C. Know her as A. O. C. = A.K.A. … " All Out Crackhead " she did more lines than an " Etch a Sketch " on Christmas. Lower East Side of Manhattan she couldnt make a Martini without doing a blast first, pathetic.

  4. Hey fucknut!!!! First learn to speak first… second have you ever asked your mama did she she regret not swallowing?

  5. Lmao "I don't know what we're here doing… I don't what we're here doing!" I've heard this about 6 times and I still don't know what you're here doing!

  6. Everyone voted no on her scam because she was debunked by scientists prior to saying the world will end in 12. It's another socialist stunt for money and power. Not today AOC. Or ever

  7. We got a Green New Deal…it is called the EPA and the Clean Air Act. Pollution from car emmissions has been cut 73% since 1970. The Montreal Protical took CFCs out of refrigerants to protect the Ozone layer. But I guess this little fool already knew that. An outraged toddler who out to be in daycare, not the Senate.

  8. nobody cares what you say. you are a 29 yr old twit selling tacos. dont tell me about world issues, when the only taco you can sell is the one between your skinny boyish thighs. i never did like a tuna fish taco.

  9. I really like her, the working class need more voices in position's where thay can make a genuine difference

  10. Despite her outburst and her lack of experience , she's right about the crisis of our failing infrastructure and she's right about the fact that they bail out the banks but have ignored our crumbling infrastructure for far too long now .
We all use the same roads and need clean drinking water no matter what economic status we have . Yet they gladly shell out hundreds of billions of dollars for the military while our infrastructure is falling apart . They'll argue how will an infrastructure bill pay for itself ? Job creation is one aspect they're not looking at obviously .

As for the military how does destroying other countries pay for itself ? Meanwhile we're the number one arms exporters in the world causing more suffering .
The Roman empire made the exact same mistakes as this country is making .
They expanded their sphere of influence through military conquest while ignoring the failing infrastructure and the civil unrest that was growing back home .
Personally I'm glad she's there raising awareness of the issues and exposing the crony capitalist system for what it is . She may not have the experience yet but she's getting there . That "Green new deal" was forced to a premature
vote to make her look bad . It definitely wasn't ready for a vote yet .It was a spiteful move to discredit her.
Obviously it's unrealistic to get rid of all products that require oil in the time frame that she had in mind but other countries are moving away from their dependency on oil as much as possible but it's going to take time to get there .
I admire her passion for the subject but she needs more experience to understand how crooked our system has become .

Also speaking of science , scientist have been saying that our sun is getting warmer . It's not just the Earth that's getting warmer , it's the entire solar system that's warning up . Obviously dumping more co2 into the atmosphere isn't going to help with keeping the planet at stable temperatures . Carbon dioxide isn't the only greenhouse gas to be concerned about . If the frozen methane deposits start to melt ( which they're starting to) we'll have a runaway greenhouse situation to be worrying about that cannot be stopped in time . The big oil companies know about this and have been working towards diversifying their options for energy production such as LNG solar power plants, wind farms etc instead of oil . The question is how much time do we have to argue about it ? There are entire cities and towns around the world that are being forced to relocate because of the rising waters. This is fact and not fiction .

  11. AOC is part of the establishment… She backs the sanctions for Venezuela and the Coup d’ État.
    Shame on her.
