– For an open fracture
which actually means that there’s a communication between the fracture site and a cut in the skin or an opening in the skin, immobilization is most
important as we’ve talked in other questions. The motion allows if indeed there’s an open, there’s more chance that there’s bacteria or dirt or whatever’s on the surface to enter into the wound, making sure that the bone is in a position that you can support and
prevent further damage is the most important. Those patients need to be seen in the emergency room right away. By definition an open fracture requires irrigation and most of the time
in the operating room.
