((JOEY)) GOOD MORNING ALL. HAPPY TUESDAY. WE HAD A ROCKY START TO THE MORNING. THUNDERSTORMS FROM YESTERDAY’S SEVERE ACTIVITY IN IOWA STARTED TO MAKE THERE WAY THROUGH THIS MORNING. WE EVEN HAD A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS TO OUR COUNTIES OUT WEST BELIEVE IT OR NOT. BUT STORMS HAVE WEAKENED AS THE MORNING PROGRESSED AND ARE NOW PUSHING TO THE EAST. WE COULD SEE A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS IN THE UPCOMING HOURS SO IT WOULD BE HANDY TO HAVE THE UMBRELLA WITH YOU JUST IN CASE. DIVING INTO THE WEATHER RISK, WE WILL KEEP IT ON THE MODERATE SIDE TODAY. THUNDERSTORMS EARLY WILL LEAD TO A HUMID AND BREEZY AFTERNOON. WILL GUSTS COULD TOP OUT AROUND 25 TO 30 MPH. THE BUS STOP FORECAST, RAIN HAS TAPERED OFF FOR THE MOST PART BUT WE COULD STILL SEE A SPOTTY SHOWER OR TWO. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A SUPPLY OF WATER LATER TODAY CAUSE CONDITIONS WILL GET HOT AND STEAMY. ((BRITTANIE)) IN JUST A FEW MONTHS… THE SALE AND USE OF RECREATIONAL POT BECOMES LEGAL IN ILLINOIS BEFORE JANUARY FIRST… LOCAL GOVERNMENTS HAVE MANY DECISIONS TO MAKE. REPORTER KARINA PARADA WAS AT CITY HALL LAST NIGHT… WHERE TWO COMMITEES ADDRESSED DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE FUTURE LEGALIZATION. ROCKFORD CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES MARIJUANA. STARTING JANUARY FIRST.. THE POSSESSION AND SALE OF RECREATIONAL CANNABIS WILL BE LEGAL IN ILLINOIS. MUNICIPALITIES ACROSS THE STATE ARE HOPING TO CASH IN.. INCLUDING ROCKFORD. Alderman John Beck/City of Rockford, 12th Ward (R) “Additional revenue helps the city do a better job of maintaining roads, providing police and fire services and all the other basic services that we offer.” MONDAY… THE FINANCE AND PERSONNEL COMMITTEE VOTED TO PASS A THREE PERCENT RETAIL TAX ON SALES. ROCKFORD ALDERMAN JOHN BECK SAYS IT COULD BE A GREAT HELP WITH FUTURE BUDGETS. Alderman John Beck/City of Rockford, 12th Ward (R) “It’s a new source so we’re not increasing taxes on anybody which is great. We’re taking a product that was sold illegally and not being taxed at all, now it’s going to be sold legally and that allows us to tax it.” ALDERMAN ALSO CONSIDERED POTENTIAL CANNABIS-RELATED BUSINESS LOCATIONS. Alderman Joe Chiarelli/City of Rockford, 14th Ward (R) “These dispensaries will be retail locations where they’re selling the marijuana. The grower aspect of it will most likely be within the 5,000 square foot buildings. That will most likely be within the light industrial area.” INDOOR PRODUCTION BY DISPENSARIES WAS ALSO RECOMMENDED BY THE COMMITTEE…. BUT ONLY IF ISN’T THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE BUSINESS. Scott Capovilla/City of Rockford, Zoning & Land Use Administrator “The growing, cultivating and infusion of cannabis plants indoors will be similar to this type of use as it is similar to a greenhouse or an indoor grow center.” ROCKFORD HAS TWO MEDICAL DISPENSARIES ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A RECREATIONAL LICENSE. THE STATE WILL PERMIT 75 MORE LOCATIONS ACROSS ILLINOIS. Nicholas O. Meyer/City of Rockford, Legal Director “In the first wave, Rockford gets two.
